365 Days of Clay Cups
Before & After Photo Gallery
5 THINGS TO
KNOW ABOUT THE PROJECT |
|
1.
This
is a novice pottery project so there is ALWAYS
room for growth! The process
from 1st throw on the pottery wheel to final
product takes approximately 1 month. |
2. In a months time you may
notice a significant difference in cup
throwing skills & form development. |
3.
Cups ARE
bisque fired in
number order. Which means the 1st time they go
into the kiln. |
4.
Cups
ARE NOT
glazed and fired in number order.
Which means a glaze is selected and then
specific cups are chosen for each color for
efficiency purposes. |
5. If
a cup has been damaged during a firing (cracks,
crazes, bubbles) I will do
my best to note the defects with the photos! |
BUYING

Ceramic Cups Day
1-50
January 1st - February 19th
- This is where the project
began!
- A novice potter with
basic throwing skills learned from watching
DVD's & Youtube.
- Kiln work was not done in
this period.
|
Ceramic Cups
Day
51-100
February 20th - April
10th
-
Still learning pottery
skills shared from online potters.
- Decided on
the basic techniques I wanted to learn & focus
on.
- Cups are starting to
improve and even though I'm still growing in my
throwing skills I can get creative with handbuilding handles!
-
Glazing and firing these and the 1st months cups
was a new adventure! |
Ceramic Cups Day
101 - 150
April 11th - May 30th
- Feeling more comfortable
with throwing and am able to think of a form and
make it really happen on the pottery wheel more
consistently!
- Started some new ceramic glazing
and decorating techniques such as underglaze
application, slip trailing and masking designs.

Ceramic Cups Day
151- 200
May 31st - July
19th
- Two steps forward one step
back! This process has been a learning curve
that has kept it exciting.
- Since my throwing
skills are continuing to improve, it's allowing
me to think more creatively about what I'd like
to make.
- Functional - Simple - Abstract..all of
these have their own appeal so I'll be focusing
more on the finished products.
|
Ceramic Cups Day
201- 250
July 20th
- September 7th
- Starting
to hit my stride! The cups are throwing a lot
easier and I'm finding styles I like to repeat.
- Still open to learning more about throwing
better forms, yet the I'm finding my focus
moving towards combining techniques with
hand building and researching glazing ideas! |
Ceramic Cups Day
251 - 300
September 8th -
October 27th
- Revisited my original goals and the intent of
the project to regain focus and to
answer the question "Why am I doing all this
& what do how would I like it to finish ?"
-
The cups are piling up and taking up quite a bit
of space, really seeing the magnitude of
this undertaking...especially for a hobbyist!
- I am able to throw the cups I envision
with more ease, but have realized that without
the
repetition of like forms, it's still difficult
to create a duplicate copy.

October 28th -
December 31st
Ceramic Cups
Day
301- 364
- Realized this
"sprinter" has become a "marathon runner" and is
coming into the home stretch!
- The project focus transitioned from wanting to
learn just basic techniques and skill to the
creative why and creating esthetically pleasing
forms...I'm learning my voice!
